History & Legacy

Twyla L. Sketchley founded the firm to focus on one area of law: elder law. That meant building a practice around helping Tallahassee families with Medicaid questions, guardianship, estate planning, and the legal issues that come up when a parent’s health changes or a spouse passes away. Twyla started as a solo practitioner. The firm now includes three attorneys, a senior paralegal, and a legal assistant, all working in the same area. Staying in one area of law means the team sees the same kinds of situations year after year, and the experience shows up in the work.

Community Impact

Twyla is a member of the Florida Bar and the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, and holds Florida Bar Board Certification in Elder Law. Beyond client work, the firm invests time in public education on elder law topics — the kinds of questions that come up at kitchen tables long before a family calls an attorney. Most Florida families do not know how Medicaid works until they need it, or how guardianship differs from power of attorney, or what a special needs trust actually protects. Closing that gap is part of the work.
