A durable power of attorney is a power of attorney that lasts beyond your incapacity. What that means is that if you become incapacitated due to an injury, illness or stroke, then your agent can continue to act on your behalf after you’ve lost that capacity. A general power of attorney terminates when you become incapacitated.
