The Office of Public Guardian, Inc. of North Florida (OPG) is a non-profit corporation (501(c)3) that has been designated by the State of Florida’s Department of Elder Affairs as a Public Guardian Office. It serves as a court-appointed guardian (alternative decision-maker) for adults who have been found incapacitated by a court, who have no friends or family willing or able to help them and no assets or income with which to hire someone to help them. Many of OPG’s clients have been the victims of abuse, neglect or exploitation and have nothing when OPG begins caring for them.
Christmas in July is an event sponsored by The Sketchley Law Firm each year. We collect toiletries (soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, mouthwash, lotion, deodorant, combs, brushes, washcloths, and other personal items) and donations to the OPG Emergency Fund from our friends and neighbors. We package these donations in individual bags and deliver them to OPG. OPG uses these items throughout the year for clients who need personal items, but have no money with which to purchase them and who’s facilities or residences cannot provide them.
OPG also accepts donations throughout the year for its Emergency Fund, which is used to help OPG clients with other emergencies such as purchase of clothing, food, medications, utilities, and in some dire circumstances to prevent eviction and homelessness. If you are interested in helping with Christmas in July contact us at info@sketchleylaw.com. If you would like to make a donation to the OPG emergency fund, email OPG at helpis@northfloridaopg.org.
